Continuing my series of articles on the World Cup for investments to potentially yield both media and performance buzz dividends. The players I will be showcasing will range in price so something for every budget.
Group B overall analysis
This group looks quite easy to predict. I believe Spain and Portugal will both easily go through and Iran and Morroco will fight it out for third. Spain will likely finish 1st with Portugal a close second. Morocco and Iran will be very tight between takes 3rd, but I expect Morocco to just edge it.
Jahanbaksh (£1.37) – Has had a good season in the Eridevisie and has been loosely linked to PB generating leagues. The winger has had a good goal/ assist to game ratio this season and has recently had a spike in price due to the fact he scored a hat-trick. I would wait to buy and allow his price to crash a bit. However, a good performance at the World Cup could see him join a decent club thus allowing him to score PB in the future.
Ghoddos (£0.70) – Is a versatile attacking player who is currently playing for Ostersunds HK in Sweden. Although they didn’t go through in the second leg against Arsenal, he gave them a scare as he turned their defence and scored an excellent goal. This type of performance has caught the eye of clubs like Crystal Palace who are currently linked with him. If he did move to Palace I believe he would probably start as they do not have many decent attackers of the ball. He is relatively cheap so could be worth a punt.
Ziyech – This attacking midfielder has been a top performer in the Dutch league for a number of seasons. However, is it time for him to finally move on to bigger things? Everton are currently linked with him and I can see why as they don’t have an abundance of attacking minded midfielders and if he performs well at the World Cup he could spark interest from other clubs also. However his transfer is far from confirmed so he could be a bit of a risk as he is already £1,76. He also takes set pieces for Morocco so could have a good chance at PB in the World Cup.
Benatia – The Juventus centre-back has performed very well this season and has helped lead Juventus to yet another Serie A title. He has been vaguely linked to Arsenal in the past and with a new manager, possibly Allegri he could move for a defender he already knows.
Saiss – This newly promoted Wolves defender is still only £0.52 which is very cheap considering his team won the league. A decent World Cup could lead a bit of PB. However, there may be good value in him mainly for next season as he will be in the Premier League.
Ronaldo – One of the world’s best footballers can never be looked past when deciding who to invest in. It may also be a good time to buy now as he is in a dip and could get some MB + PB in and around the Champions League final. During the World Cup he is bound to get a few goals for Portugal. From the last year per share he has won £1.30 in MB and 88p in PB and has a decent chance of winning more in the upcoming weeks. He also takes penalties for Portugal along with free kicks which will increase his PB score.
Guedes – At only 21 the Valencia left midfielder has already caught the eye of clubs like PSG and Man United and speculation could increase if he is a standout player in the world cup. He recently made his debut in qualifying for Portugal and was a top performer. I would expect him to nail down a starting place at the World Cup which could lead to increased MB for him over the summer regarding transfer speculation. At only £1.72 I think he is a great addition to your portfolio.
I don’t see much value in many of Spain’s players as I can’t see many of them going anywhere in the transfer window. From a PB perspective, I think David Silva is the best shout as will probably take set pieces and has had good PB scores in the Premier League this season and is currently a reasonable £2.19.
