World Cup Analysis: Group A

I’m planning a series of articles on the World Cup for investments to potentially yield both media and performance buzz dividends. The players I will be showcasing will range in price so something for every budget. I will be releasing one group every few days over the coming weeks. By then you should have some insight into who I think will perform well in the World Cup along with players who (if perform as expected) may look to make a club move. I hope you find this knowledge helpful and we all make a profit out of it. Let’s start with Group A.

Group A overall analysis

With Russia kicking the World Cup off against Saudi in this group I expect a narrow win for the host nation, with Uruguay then edging a win over Egypt. I then expect Egypt to beat Russia and Uruguay to win convincingly against Saudi Arabia. During the final group games, I believe Egypt will easily beat Saudi with Uruguay securing an easy victory against Russia.

Eventually, I think the group will end like this:

As I predict them to get out of the group, players have a further chance to win PB.

High range investments (£1.50+)

Salah – This unstoppable goal machine is in the form of his life for Liverpool right now and is still rising on the Index. He’s won the majority of MB over the last month due to this incredible scoring run along with his humbleness as a player. You could expect him to win MB again throughout the World Cup and if he continues to play like he has been the rumours to Real Madrid and Barcelona will be out in full force. He’s also won PL POTY which is astonishing. Although he’s still rising, I expect him to rise further pre World Cup followed by a likely drop when Egypt exit the competition. If there is a significant drop and you believe he’s going to have an immense season again then immediately after Egypt exit could be an excellent opportunity to buy further futures in Salah. He’s currently priced at £10.18 and is always on the rise however he does bring you a lot in the way of dividends. If you had bought Salah one month ago he would have cost you an average of £8.06 and in that time he accumulated 16 MB that’s £0.80 in dividends in the last month along with an increase of £2.12 in share price. Overall, I believe he could be a good addition to your portfolio (if you don’t already hold him).

Low range investments

Elneny – Has had a good season with Arsenal, improving vastly from last season. Although he’s just signed a new contract with Arsenal that doesn’t mean he’s definitely staying, as a new manager may change things. If the new manager is announced before the World Cup then this may spark interest from other clubs. However before his injury, he had been getting assists in the champions league and has managed consistent performances at international level. The new Arsenal manager may be impressed with him and if he gets more game time in the premier league, he may earn PB once or twice like Xhaka did against Atletico Madrid. His price has dropped a bit because of his injury so this is the best time to buy. However, he did rise £0.02 over the last 24 hours. At only £0.63 I believe he is a great squad player to have in your portfolio and could see both MB and PB success both during and after the World Cup.

Hegazi – He has been a bright spark in a terrible season for West Brom. With the inevitability of them getting relegated I anticipate many teams who will want to acquire this Egyptian defender. If he performs at the World Cup there will be many teams linked to him. This will of course increase his MB as well as his share price. Although his contract runs out in 2022 this could make his transfer value increase and at a share price of only £0.72 I believe he is a bit of a bargain.

Ramadam Sobhi – This skilful winger is another player who is at a club facing the harsh reality of relegation. He’s a player who has been loosely linked with Liverpool and Celtic and therefore could get a large amount of MB if he performs well in Egypt’s games at the World Cup. We may see a price spike if Stoke are relegated (alternatively in the unlikely event they stay up he may go down in price). Regardless, I still believe he will move clubs. He is currently only £0.73 and I expect him to only go up.

Mid Range Investments (£1+)

Golovin – This technical midfielder has been on many of the top clubs radar and this Summer (assuming a good performance at the World Cup) could be the time when one of those clubs make a serious bid for him. Both Arsenal and Barcelona have been linked with him. In recent weeks we saw what a class player he was in the two legs he played against Arsenal for CSKA Moscow, scoring a great free kick in the first leg and dictating the midfield in the second. Arsene Wenger also complemented the young Russian midfielder post-match. As Russia is hosting the World Cup he will be their poster boy for it (a bit like Neymar was for Brazil) as after all he is their star player. There is potential for PB and even greater potential for MB if he performs like he is capable of for Russia. At £1.26 I think he is a great investment considering next season he could be at a really top club.

Aleksey Miranchuk – This young player is a very versatile and is currently playing football at Russian side Lokomotiv. He plays regularly for them as a second striker and is highly thought of. With many teams adapting to play a system involving a false 9 I could see him sparking interest in a number of clubs during the World Cup. A great investment at £0.72.

High range investments (£2+)

Suarez – The world-class Barcelona striker has had a below average season by his standards. Although, his team have still comfortably won the league. As he has not had the greatest of seasons it is reflected in his share price which is currently £2.24, which I believe is too low for a player of his quality. I can’t see him creating any transfer links in the summer however, he could win PB as he is a natural born goalscorer.

Cavani – He has had a great season with PSG scoring numerous times and winning the league with them again. However, PSG were unsuccessful within Europe. Cavani like Suarez is clinical in front of goal so we could see either of them winning PB during the World Cup. I also believe if he wins Ligue 1 POTY he could get a fair amount of MB so this could be a good time to buy at only £1.81.

Gimenez – An established Atletico defender who is still in the Europa league and could win PB there with a possible move in the works in the summer. At £1.27 he’s not a bad price considering he could move to one of Europe’s giants.

Bentacur – This talented midfielder has been introduced from the bench more times than anyone else from Juventus this season and he is still only 20. The World Cup could be the stage he needs to show the world how talented he really is. Many sporting news sites have stated they expect him to be in the starting line-up for Uruguay so if he performs for country as he has for club, then many big teams will be interested so at a price of £1.02 he could be a great purchase.

Maxi Gomez – Is a player who has gathered interest from Tottenham already so is likely to get a big move from Celta Vigo in the summer. With a good performance at the world cup this could cement the move to a bigger club. I expect him to receive a good amount of MB throughout the world cup and thus increasing his share price. He is also still only 21 so has a lot of potential and is only £1.25

*There are no Saudi Arabian players currently available for purchase on the football index.

I’ve been trading on the football index for over a year. Bought mostly into youth players and those who look to be receive MB and have focused a lot of attention on transfer speculation.
